PLA Event – Resolving challenges to public procurements – What is the best system that the UK can use?

17th January 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Resolving challenges to public procurements – What is the best system that the UK can use?  For authorities and utilities, bidders and practitioners, this event will debate the disadvantages and advantages of different options.

On Wednesday 17 January 2018 the Procurement Lawyers’ Association will be holding an event focussing on remedies for public procurement challenges.  The question which will be addressed is “Resolving challenges to public procurements – what is the best system that the UK can use?

Given current issues relating to the effectiveness of remedies (including for example the lifting of the automatic suspension and questions regarding damages), the event will be an opportunity for all practitioners in this field to contribute their views.

The panel for the event will be chaired by Emily Heard of Bevan Brittan LLP, joined by Professor Sue Arrowsmith and Sarah Hannaford QC.    Three mixed teams from Bevan Brittan, Burges Salmon, Osborne Clarke and Guildhall Chambers, will draw out the features of 3 potential regimes: (a) a tribunal based system (b) a regime based on the existing court system (c) a public law only system.  We will then invite a debate on the disadvantages and advantages of different options open to us and offer an opportunity to all those attending to vote on the preferred model.

The event will take place at the Bristol offices of Bevan Brittan LLP (Kings Orchard, 1 Queen Street, Bristol, BS2 0HQ) and we look forward to welcoming PLA members in Bristol as video-linking to other locations is not possible.

The event will start at 5pm with registration from 4.30, and refreshments will be available from about 6pm.
